Nasce "Luminoso" in edizione limitata / "Luminoso" is born in limited edition

Vinificazione - Vino bianco in edizione limitata (2.000 bottiglie)

L'incisione all'Acquaforte - Dunio Piccolin e Giancarlo Busato

ENGLISH VERSION

I get up with the desire to put in my hand some of the ocre-coloured gravel of Podere San Cristoforo that gently prickles my skin while it slips between my fingers. A sun ray filters through the balcony, I think that the warmth will finally dry out the vineyards and it will give us some new energy. Today is a special day also for another reason: I will meet Dunio and Giancarlo for lunch and they will give me the “Acquaforte print” that I will use for the label of "Luminoso", the white wine from this fabulous corner of Maremma that was produced in a very limited quantity.

I arrive in Vicenza, and with a tap of finger, I hit the little bell situated in the middle of the wrought iron gate at the entrance of Giancarlo Busato ‘s ancient art workshop. I go up the stairs with Giancarlo who has a big smile even if it’s a very busy time for him. Dunio is lowered over the table with a pencil: he is drawing an harvest scene. He looks at me and immediately with a shy smile points out the whole print tests for “Luminoso”: a scene of the oldest vineyard of Podere San Cristoforo - planted mostly with Vermentino and Trebbiano. I can recognizes the gentle stroke of the artist. However what strikes me the most is the perspective, it really seems to break though the two-dimensions of the paper, opening a small window on this old vineyard, almost abandoned the border of my property flush with the warmth of the sunset. In the foreground, a thievish magpie is perched on a vineyard pole seeming to protect the gilded cluster treasure. Everything is illuminated by a subtle light that spreads out from the sun now low behind the hills.

Congratulations Dunio and Giancarlo, you’ve given us another emotion!

Note: "Luminoso" in Italian mens bright, sunny, luminous.

“Luminoso” comes from the oldest vineyard of Podere San Cristoforo, a small plot containing vines of various origins that are over thirty years old. These are mainly Vermentino and Trebbiano, varieties that thrives under the influence of the wind and the sea. This wine’s great appeal lies in its subtle mineral nuances that are a result of the positive interaction between the roots and the soil.

The grapes were harvested on Friday September 19th, on the “day of the fruit” according to the lunar calendar of Maria Thun, at full maturation using small baskets, and then destemmed and gently pressed through an old press with a wooden cage. The cold must was settled for one day and then racked. The clean must then started its natural fermentation through indigenous yeasts. Friday September 26th, in the waning moon, it has been racked again to be cleaned from the fermentation sediments. During the maturation of 6 months in 2 small cement vats, it was repeatedly remixed (bâttonage) to dissolve the yeasts and give greater softness to the wine.

"Acquaforte" print

Engraved in copper by the artist Dunio Piccolin. Etched by Giancarlo Busato. The Acquaforte print portrays a scene of our oldest vineyard: "the usual thievish magpie, in the lukewarm heat of the sunset, seems to protect that treasure of gilded clusters, matured in the oldest vineyard of our farm."
